DIY Couples Christmas Ornaments
The holiday season is quickly approaching…it’s a time filled with warmth, joy, and the spirit of giving.
Why not add a little creativity and personalization to the season by turning ornament-making into a romantic holiday date night?!
Crafting Christmas ornaments with your partner can be a romantic and memorable experience.
You get to spend quality time together and express your creativity while making decorations that you will cherish for years to come.
This is one of my husband and my favorite Christmas date ideas.
We started the tradition of making ornaments together years ago and look forward to doing so every year.
The ornaments we’ve created are special to look back at and reminisce on what was going on at that time.
Set the Scene for Ornament Making
Create a cozy and romantic atmosphere by playing holiday music and lighting a few scented candles or tea lights. This will help set the stage for festive ornament making.
What You Need For This DIY Couples Ornament Date Night
- Clear glass or clear plastic ornaments and/or clear plastic fillable ornaments (more details to follow).
- Acrylic paint in various colors.
- Glitter and sequins.
- Glue (if you wish to use glitter or sequins).
- Ribbon or twine for hanging your ornaments.
- Disposable plates and cups for paint and water.
- Newspaper or a cloth to protect your workspace.
DIY Couples Christmas Ornament Ideas
There are a couple different ways that you can create your ornaments depending on the style of the ornament (fillable and non-fillable) you choose to make.
1 – Clear plastic or glass ornaments. Decorate the exterior of the clear plastic of glass ornaments.
2 – Fillable Plastic Ornaments. Decorate the exterior, let it try, then add a special touch by filling it with surprises for your partner.
Step One – Paint Your Ornaments
Regardless of the style ornament you choose, it’s time to let your imagination run wild.
Use the paint to create festive designs. Consider classic holiday scenes like Christmas trees, stockings, reindeer, etc. Adding glitter and sequins will really make your ornament sparkle!
You can even add a special touch by painting a personalized message on the outside for your partner.
Step Two – Fill Your Ornament
Using a clear fillable ornament is my favorite for this date idea! I feel that it makes this date night even more memorable.
After your ornament is dry, it’s time to open it up and fill it with something special for your partner.
Here are a few ideas:
1. Print a favorite picture of you and your partner from the past year and place it inside the holiday ornament.
2. Write a special little love note to your sweetie and place it inside the ornament. Make them wait until Christmas to read your special message.
3. Place a small gift inside the ornament as a surprise for them to open on Christmas morning.
Step Three – Hang Your Ornaments
Once your ornaments have dried and are filled with special Christmas keepsakes, it’s time to hang them on the tree.
I like using a simple red ribbon to create a hook for these creations. I find the ribbon to be a bit more sturdy than many of the hooks that often come with the ornament.
After creating your hook, hang your ornaments on the Christmas tree for you two to enjoy admiring throughout the holiday season.
