This honeymoon packing list will help to ensure you have everything you need for your once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Honeymoon Packing List
Whether youâre jetting off to a tropical beach like in Hawaii, Mexico, or Jamaica, or a cultural trip or exciting adventure, packing the right items helps make for an enjoyable trip.
I remember when my husband and I were packing for our honeymoon, we made sure to think through all that we would need.
Knowing we had all our essentials helped us to relax and enjoy our entire time together.
In my opinion, getting to a resort and realizing youâve forgotten something necessary and trying to figure out where to get it from does not lend itself to the start of a relaxing honeymoon.
That’s why I wanted to put together this post with a honeymoon packing list to help ensure that you too will have everything you need for your romantic getaway.
Honeymoon Packing List for Couples
Be sure to tailor this honeymoon packing list to your specific destination, needs, and preferences.
Travel Documents to Pack
Tip: Make a couple copies of your important documents and donât keep them in the same place. Keep one copy with you in your purse and one in your carry-on or suitcase. This was suggested to me years ago by a travel agent and Iâve done it ever since. Itâs a great way to ensure you have your important information, just in case you lose something.
- Identification – Make sure to carry a driverâs license, your marriage certificate, or any other necessary identification you may need.
- Passports – Ensure both your passports are up to date well before your honeymoon (if traveling abroad).
- Health Insurance Cards
- Hotel Reservations – It can be helpful to print a copy of your hotel reservations and confirmation details.
- Travel Insurance – If you choose to purchase travel insurance, bring a copy of it with you.
Money to Bring
- Credit and Debit Cards – Youâll need to call and inform your bank about the dates you will be traveling. This will help to avoid any card issues while youâre away.
- Local Currency – Itâs helpful to have some local cash on hand for tipping and any small expenses.
- Emergency Cash – Keep a small amount of money in a safe and secure location for emergencies.
Clothing Packing List for Your Honeymoon
The time of year and your honeymoon destination will impact several of the clothing items you will need to pack.
- Weather Appropriate Attire: The clothing you pack will be very dependent on your destination. Be sure to check the weather ahead of time for your specific honeymoon travel details. Research what type of attire is appropriate for that location and specific time of year.
- Swimwear: Packing swimwear is a must regardless of whether youâre hitting the beach or not. You may find youâre staying at a hotel that has a jacuzzi or spa youâll want to visit.
- Casual and Formal Outfits: Include a mix of both casual and formal outfits. That way youâll have your attire covered from romantic dinners to exciting adventures.
- Comfortable Shoes: Whether youâre walking the beach or exploring new cities, bringing comfortable shoes is a must.
- Workout Clothes
- Lingerie
- Sleepwear
- Undergarments and socks: Bring enough for the entire honeymoon, plus a few extra (just in case).
- Jackets and Sweaters: Even if youâre visiting a tropical destination it can get chilly at night. So be sure to pack a sweater or light jacket.
- Accessories: Consider bringing scarves, earrings, bracelets, clutches, etc (avoid bringing anything too valuable)

What To Pack In Your Carry-on
From experience, Iâve learned itâs important to keep all of your essentials in your carry-on bag.
That way if the airline loses your luggage you still have the things you need.
Tip: As you pack your carry-on be sure to pay attention to airline restrictions for items like liquids.
Here is a list of items to pack in your carry-on:
- Passport and/or ID
- Boarding passes
- Travel insurance details
- Health insurance card
- Wallet with cash and cards
- Jewelry and valuable items: (Itâs best not to bring a lot of valuables with you when you travel. However, the items you do choose to bring with you, you should keep with you in your carry-on).
- Phone and charger
- Laptop or tablet
- Headphones
- Power bank
- Prescription medications (if any)
- Basic first aid items (bandages pain relievers, motion sickness pills, etc)
- Hygiene products (hand sanitizer, travel toothbrush and toothpaste etc.)
- Change of clothes and pair of undergarments
- Travel pillows, sleep masks, and earplugs
Items to Leave Home on Your Honeymoon
It can be easy to want to bring a whole bunch of stuff with you on your honeymoon but try to avoid it.
Itâs best to only bring the necessities and leave your valuables at home.
These items are best left at home:
- Jewelry and sentimental items: Leave your expensive jewelry and sentimental items at home. (This includes your engagement ring. I really wanted to wear my engagement ring on my honeymoon but it gave me peace of mind not having it with me).
- Full-size toiletries: Opt for travel-size toiletries or use travel containers to bring products with you. This will save a lot of room and weight in your suitcase.
- A bunch of clothes: Chances are you wonât be wearing everything you bring. So carefully think through your outfits and avoid overpacking clothing items.
